Domestic pool hose is usually 32 mm or 38 mm outside diameter. They are not interchangeable. Measure the existing hose or the spigot on your pump before ordering, and expect to need an adaptor if you are joining equipment from different manufacturers.

Yes, with the right adaptor. Intex and Bestway use their own fitting sizes that do not match standard pool pipework directly. The hose adaptors in this range are made for exactly this, and are much cheaper than replacing equipment that otherwise works fine.

It lets you route water around a heat pump or other in-line equipment without disconnecting anything. That makes winterising simple — isolate and drain the heat pump while the rest of the circulation keeps working — and makes servicing far less disruptive.

They are not essential, but they are one of the cheapest upgrades you can make. Without them, any work on the pump or filter means draining part of the system. With a valve either side, you close two taps and get on with it.
