Above Ground Pool Pipe Connection Guide

Find the right connection kit for your pool, pump, and heat pump combination — before you order.

This guide shows which pipe connection kit is required for each combination of pool connection size, pump/filter, and heat pump model. Use the table below to identify the correct kit for your setup before ordering. If you have any questions, contact us directly before purchasing.

Important: check your pump compatibility first

Due to the flow rate required by the heat pump, only certain heat pump sizes will work with the iFlo Junior pump and filter. For larger heat pump models, the iFlo 500 pump and filter will be required. Using the wrong kit can result in poor water flow, which may cause the heat pump to overheat and shut down.

Connection Kit Reference

The table below covers common above-ground pool setups. Identify your pool's connection size (marked on the pool wall fitting, usually 32 mm, 38 mm, or 1.5") and your pump/filter model, then cross-reference with your heat pump model to find the correct kit.

How to Check Your Pipe Size

Do not measure the external diameter of the pipe to determine its size — pipe standards vary and the external diameter alone does not reliably indicate the nominal pipe size. Instead, check the markings stamped on the pipe or on the fittings themselves. The nominal size (e.g. 32 mm, 38 mm, or 1.5") will be printed or embossed on the pipe or fitting body.

If you're still unsure, send us a photo of your pool wall fitting and pump connections and we'll identify the right kit for you.

Flow Rate and Heat Pump Compatibility

Every heat pump has a minimum flow rate requirement, listed in its technical specification. If the water flowing through the unit is below this threshold, the heat exchanger will overheat and the heat pump will shut itself down as a safety measure.

The iFlo Junior pump and filter unit is suitable for smaller heat pumps only — typically up to 7 kW. For models above this, the higher flow rate of the iFlo 500 is required. Installing a larger heat pump with an underpowered pump will result in nuisance shut-downs, poor heating performance, and may cause long-term damage to the heat exchanger.

Not sure which kit applies to you?
