Heating your above-ground pool doesn't need to be complicated. A heat pump is the most efficient way to do it — and our range is designed for easy installation on all major above-ground pool types, including Intex, Bestway, wooden and metal-frame pools. This guide explains what you need and how to choose the right system.
Why Choose a Heat Pump?
A heat pump is the most efficient way to heat an above-ground pool. For every 1 kW of electricity used, a modern inverter heat pump can deliver up to 5 kW of heat — meaning lower running costs and a longer, more comfortable swimming season. Our systems are compatible with all major above-ground pool types.

Recommended Heat Pumps
We've selected a small range of models that consistently perform well for above-ground pools.
Thermotec Neo
Most popularA strong all-round option that suits most above-ground pools. Offers excellent efficiency through full inverter technology, runs quietly, and keeps ongoing costs low. The most popular choice for wooden and Intex pools in the 20–50 m³ range.
Thermotec Edge
Extended seasonDesigned for customers who want higher performance or plan to heat their pool over a longer season — April through October. Delivers more power, very low noise levels, and strong efficiency at lower air temperatures.
Thermotec Mini
Smaller poolsA compact heat pump designed for smaller volumes (up to around 15 m³) and straightforward installation. A good fit for smaller Intex or Bestway pools where a plug-and-play solution is preferred.
Our recommendation: For better long-term efficiency and lower running costs, we generally recommend the Thermotec Neo or Edge over smaller plug-in units where your pool size and budget allow.
Choosing the Right Size
Correct sizing is key to getting good performance. An undersized unit will struggle to heat the pool, while an oversized unit isn't cost-effective. For a quick guide, see our heat pump sizing guide. Or send us your pool dimensions and we'll size it for you — it takes about five minutes and costs nothing.
Pool Covers Make a Big Difference
A solar cover is essential when heating an above-ground pool. It reduces heat loss by up to 70%, particularly overnight, and helps keep running costs under control. Without a cover, the heat pump has to work significantly harder — and may struggle to maintain temperature during cool nights.
We stock solar covers in a range of sizes to fit common above-ground pool shapes.
Calculating Your Pool Volume
If you want to work it out yourself, the formulas are straightforward:
Round pools
3.14 × r² × depth
r = radius in metres (half the diameter)
Rectangular pools
L × W × depth
All measurements in metres. Result is m³.
